Gender issues committee motivates female lawyers to engage in the profession of advocacy

Prizren – Committee on gender and minority issues within KBA work plan for 2014, which deals with empowerment and protection of women and minorities in the judiciary, held the first meeting with female lawyers in the Prizren region.

At this meeting were vice chairwoman of the Committee for Gender and Minority issues, Mrs. Myrvete Qollaku lawyer, Mrs. Lule Bilalli-Ymeri lawyer from Pristina, Mrs. Bahrie Xhyliqi lawyer from Malishevo and 12 female lawyers from the region of Prizren. During the meeting the deputy president Mrs. Qollaku, spoke about the role of a female lawyer in the justice system in Kosovo, with special emphasis in the practice of law in Kosovo. She shared her experience as a lawyer pointing to the challenges and difficulties encountered during her career as a lawyer. While, on the other hand, Mrs. Lule Bilalli-Ymeri lawyer from Pristina and Mrs. Bahrie Xhyliqi lawyer, talked about a motive to choose advocacy as their profession.

Female lawyers from Prizren during the round table have shown their opinions about the justice system in Kosovo and the role of a woman in this segment. They expressed their satisfaction with the organization of the round table by KBA, considering  it a good opportunity to be informed about the profession of lawyers. In this regard, they expressed their ambitions for the future in the field of justice, namely the judiciary, prosecution and defense. According to them, the legal profession is a challenging profession for Kosovar women, but at the same time convenient to demonstrate professional values.

KBA Committee on Gender and Minority issues within work plan for 2014 will hold meetings in Pristina, Peja, Gjilane, Prizren and Gracanica.
